Principal's Message

Greetings Crenshaw Cougars! I want to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year!  My name is Peter Benefiel. I am excited and enthusiastic to be the proud Principal of Crenshaw High School STEMM Magnet. I can’t wait to start a new school year with our returning students and families, and welcome all of incoming new Crenshaw Cougars.

While we are a STEMM Magnet school, we offer multiple pathways for our students to excel in. All pathways are founded in the 21st century skills of collaboration, critical thinking, communication, and creativity. These are the skills that young adults will need to be successful in college, careers, and the world.

Our three primary pathways are Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA), Business and Entrepreneurship and Technology (BET), and Sports Medicine (STEMM). Whether your child is interested in dance, computer science, graphic design, owning a business, working in a bank, or getting hands on experience providing sports therapy to athletes in our nationally renowned sports programs, there is something for everyone at Crenshaw.

As Principal, my first commitment to you is to ensure a safe and nurturing school environment where your child will thrive, learn, and feel part of a larger community. I also am committed to ensuring we are providing a world class education to your child in all facets. This is accomplished through the work of our fabulous staff, providing multiple layers of support for our students, and excellent first instruction in the classroom.

This year will be like no other in the history of public education as we prepare to open school in a full virtual environment. While the current health and safety situation presents many challenges, it also presents us all with opportunities to learn new skills. Students should take on this challenge by ensuring that they continue to build their computer literacy skills and ability to navigate the internet. It is also an opportunity for students to be creative in how they express themselves and socialize responsibly online. For parents and guardians, it is critical that you take advantage of the District tools available to communicate with the school and monitor your child’s attendance and academic progress.

Parents are our partners in all that we do and I look forward to working with each and every one of you to ensure your child’s success!

Sincerely,

P. Benefiel
