This is a Teacher Training Magnet course. Students will experience tutoring in the subject of reading/writing at a local elementary school. We will travel to the school three times a week during 2nd period. Students are required to have a trip slip on file. There are also 3 mandatory field trips required during the school year (Downtown Central Library, Long Beach Aquarium, and the L.A. Zoo). Attendance is key to this class, along with weekly reflection journals. Community Service is also offered through this course.

CULMINATION FIELDTRIP: Los Angeles Zoo
This fieldtrip takes place on a Sunday. We will meet in front of CHS at 7:30am and return by 2:00pm. Tutors may invite family members and siblings (no children under 10, unless accompanied by parent). We will all ride the bus together. It is very important that you and your guests adhere to the times required to be at the bus; to and fro. The bus will leave you if you are not there by the designated times. There will be a ceremony with the three high schools involved with Winnicks' Winners and their elementary schools. This will take place in the amphitheatre of the zoo where food and drinks will be provided. We will be ending our tutoring with the 59th Street School 2nd graders with this fieldtrip. All tutors will write a speech on the benefits and rewards of this class. ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY IF YOU WOULD LIKE FULL COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS FOR THIS CLASS!!!

FIELDTRIP: Long Beach Aquarium with Tutees (ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY!!!!!)
We will be traveling with our tutees to the aquarium. Here, you will walk with your tutees on a tour of the aquarium and visit the attractions. You must remain with your tutees and their teachers at all times. There will be no wandering off for any reason. There is a possiblity of lunches being provided through the Teacher Training Magnet budget. Otherwise, tutors are REQUIRED to bring a sack lunch. Your tutees will have sack lunches courtesy of 59th as well. There will be no purchasing of food at the aquarium or any other vendors nearby. This will be a fun day if all adhere to the rules!!!!
