Memoir I started teaching English at Crenshaw High School right after the World Trade Center tragedy. It was a time of great stress for the young. Sars. National instability. It made working in the tiny bungalow (D6) very difficult. The students though the world was ending, and I tried to ensure them that it wasn't, that they would walk into a world of opportunity. Sad thing is, I didn't believe it my self. Still, I fought to provide them with activities that challenged them to think critically, express themselves articulately, and expressively, on paper.

I was sad to leave Crenshaw, sad to say goodboye to so many beautiful and creative young people. They will always have a special place in my heart.
