Computer Animation (Period 6) Assignments

 Please complete both by the end of the Final Exam period:

1. The end of the year survey

and

2. An art product specified by Mr. Webb

 

Write a short story, then tell it through a storyboard of sketches or animated characters acting out each part.

Your complete story should consist of a character with a goal. The character faces opposition to his/her goal, and a resolution...showing whether the goal was achieved & how.  You may choose to include a brief descriptive character analysis, to fully explain the motivations that give rise to the story situation, for extra credit.

Use any resources available:
Low tech: Paper, pencil/marker/pen

Digital apps: Adobe Flash, Photoshop, Autodesk Maya, piskelapp.com,
abcya.com/animate.htm,
Comic Life, Sketchbook Pro, etc.

(1a) Research and Writing. Pixel Art (8bit Art)

Watch PBS Off book "The Evolution of 8bit Art", then in a Microsoft Word document type responses to the following:

-What is pixel art or 8bit art? (when was it created, what inspired it's creation, who first made it?)

-How is pixel art distinct from other forms of visual art?

-Where is pixel art commonly found, in popular culture?

-What do some people find to be appealing about pixel art?

 

(1b) Find 10 samples of Pixel Art to copy-and-paste, with a descriptive caption for each picture, at the bottom of your Word document.

(3a) Make a second document in which you draw yourself, a car, a house, and an animal, all in front of a multiplane background (with a distant horizon in the far background, mid ground, and foreground elements.)

 

(3b) Create one character animation using the Web app, Piskel.

Use PowerPoint to create a 2 minute sideshow that introduces you and your five best work products to a viewer.  For each example of your work, briefly explain in a typed caption: a.) What was the stated goal of the assignment,  and b.) Why this work reflects your highest quality product. 

(Period 4 Only: Place ALL renders into your slideshow)

 

Be prepared to present your project in front of the class, on the listed due date.
