Create a collage in Photoshop that is 19 inches wide x height 17 inches (72dpi) that shows examples of artwork styles that we covered this school year, including: digital image manipulations, flat design, infographics, vector illustration, pixel art, digital sculpture, 8bit art (pixel art & voxel art).

 

Your poster must be completely filled - with no blank or white space.

 

The artwork in this collage can be examples of your own work, or assembled from images obtained on the Internet.

8bit Art Project
Task: Design Pixel art & Voxel art using these online apps (Piskel-pixel art & Voxel Builder-voxel art), for each of the categories below.

Design one in pixel form, then a copy in voxel form.

(1) a character (human or animal),
(2) a hand tool,
(3) a sports item,
(4) a vehicle,
(5) a building, and
(6) an emoji for two of these emotions: 1. happiness, 2. confusion, 3. sadness, 4. anger, 5. disgust, 6. fear, 7. dread/reluctance

Collaborative Design - Crenshaw Gear 001

You and a partner will design 1.) a pair of Crenshaw sneakers, and 2.) an advertisement poster to get everyone interested in them.

 

The Sneaker Design can either be a Vector Illustration (Adobe Illustrator) or Image Collage-based (Photoshop, etc.), and Mr. Webb will demonstrate two approaches during class.

 

First, you need to develop the shapes and style of the shoe you intend to make - by collecting reference images of shoes that you like, from the internet.

- Crenshaw's official colors (Blue and Gold)

- A Cougar (silhouette style logo)

- Original enhancements to any existing material used.

 

1.) The shoe design must be in at least one orthographic view, include the name of the shoe, and display the name(s) of all designer participants.

2.) The Advertisement poster should do the same, but include either a quote or guiding statement for the product.

3.) Your proof-of-planning document give substantial insight into your process for creating the work and records the degree of thought and effort you put into your final work, and is therefore REQUIRED in order to earn credit on this assignment.

Collaborative Task:  Research and find a folk tale (other than Aesop's Goose that Laid the Golden Egg) to depict graphically.  Like the previous assignment, draw each of the main characters, and two environments where the story likely takes place.  Write notes to clarify visual details, and use color throughout your illustration.

Collaboration Project 001 - Map Design (Campus Cartography)

TASK: Design directions for a new student at Crenshaw HS (to get from the school's front entrance to your first period, and then to your third period.

 

Create a new Google Docs Drawing page and share it with at least one other student in the class that you will work collaboratively with.

 

Work together to plan maps for each student's schedule, then

Design a poster that shows off 5 different types of personal transportation devices that you find pictures of on the Internet. A personal transportation device is any vehicle smaller than a traditional car that can be move one or two people across distances. 

Your poster should include a colored background, with complementary colored title '5 Types of Personal Transport Today.' Each of the five vehicles you include should have a picture with a  description that explains what it is called, how many people it can carry, the power source and how much it costs to purchase & operate.

Research and Writing - Creative Bloq

 

Read the article entitled "Artists will love this Golden Rule coloring book" and write the following in a Microsoft Word document: 1.) Summarize the article, including all relevant details (such as the name of the author, when it was written, who the primary audience, etc.), 2.) Critically analyze the article - write three or more sentences that examine how well the article keeps your attention, explains ideas that you aren't fully familiar with, and what could be done to make the article better for you, as a reader.  3.)  Imagine 5 other topics that could be put into a coloring book for people your age.  List those five topics at the bottom of the document.

 

Read the tutorial , "How to paint an urban sci fi character."

Write a reflective essay that answers the following questions:

1. Is the tutorial easy to follow? (Yes/No, Why)

2. How does your interest in a subject make learning new material easier?

3. If you could learn any specific art skill - without going through the pain of difficulty, what would it be? Why?

4. What was the most difficult task that you have had to learn in life so far?

5.  In the future, do you think that learning new art techniques will be easier, the same, or more difficult than today? (Why? - details)

Rebus Exercise 

On paper, students will draw 3 pictographic sentences, in the form of a rebus.  Using only pictures, you will attempt to communicate the following:

1.) A command (e.g. Sit down, clap your hands, or say 'hello')

 

2.) A phrase from pop culture  (e.g. 'Turn Up for What!' Etc.)

 

3.) A line from a song.

 

Today's assignment may be completed on paper and submitted TODAY, in class; or if completed at a later date, using a graphics app, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.

 

Task1.   - Students will research images of two forms of visual communication graphics: Pictograms & Calligrams.

Draw 3 examples of pictograms and 3 examples of calligrams on your paper.

Design a US Legal-Sized (8.5in x 14in) vector-based poster of the remaining Presidential Candidates for the Democratic and Republican parties.

Your poster should appear non-partisan, meaning all candidates should be shown as equivalently as possible, for example - candidate photos and text should appear in the same style and size, to show implicit equality).

 

Democratic Candidates, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, should be shown on the left half of your poster, facing right, with blue tinted backgrounds and their names clearly legible on the poster.

 

Republican Candidates, Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, should be displayed on the right side of your poster, facing left, with a red tinted background. Also their names should be legibly shown next to each respective image.

 

The title "PRESIDENTIAL BATTLE 2016" must be creatively styled at the top of your poster, and any additional imagery that adds to the appeal and interest of your design is necessary for full credit.

1.) Follow the tutorial attached, to ascertain the steps required to use Image Trace in order to create a surreal illustration in Adobe Illustrator.

Using a digital photo of yourself (from Photo Booth, or another source you may have access to) create a surreal image, similar to the tutorial in part one.  Combine elements of nature, such as trees, animals, and land forms with man made structures, like buildings and furniture.  Apply Image Trace to all imagery, in the same way as it is shown in the tutorial.  Create a background for your image.  And use the Type tool (T) to write your name in the lower right or left corner of your image.

 

To earn credit for this assignment, you must submit Adobe Illustrator Documents (.ai) for BOTH part one and part two, and a JPEG image (.jpg)  for part two only, by email to [email protected]
