U.S. History Enrichment Assignments for Summer
To former and new students entering my classes Fall 2005
Take advantage of the summer months to visit the many museums and other cultural centers right here in L.A. city and county. Start with these:
1. The Natural History Museum and African-American Museum in Exposition Park.
2. The L.A. County Art Museum on Wilshire Blvd.
3. Olvera Street in Downtown L.A. (across from Union Station on Alameda)
4. Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust (on Wilshire Blvd.)
5. Hollywood History Museum (on Highland Ave. across from Hollywood High)
6. Petersen Automotive Museum (on Wilshire Blvd. near Fairfax)
7. Hollywood Guinness World of Records (on Hollywood Blvd. not far from Hollywd High)
Listen to a major news broadcast everyday. Keep informed of current events.
Watch the History Channel.
Visit bookstores in the malls etc. or visit your local library and read at least two full biographies of persons of your choice. Be able to discuss the political, economic and social issues mentioned or referred to in the biographies.
LEARN TO DO SOMETHING NEW THIS SUMMER! There are many classes being offered at parks and recreational centers in L.A. city and in nearby cities: piano lessons; art lessons; sign language classes;foreign language classes; tennis lessons; dance classes;swimming lessons and much much more..............

MANDATORY SUPPLIES FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED IN MY CLASSES FOR FALL 2005.
1. A three ring binder (NO TABLETS, PLEASE. A THREE RING BINDER REALLY IS NECESSARY) YOU MAY INCLUDE A SECTION FOR OTHER SUBJECTS IN YOUR BINDER. YOU DO NOT NEED A DIFFERENT BINDER FOR THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU CHOOSE TO HAVE ONE.
2. ten notebook dividers
3. four pens (blue or black ink ONLY)
4. TWO #2 PENCILS (needed for scantron tests and map worksheets)
5. at least 100 sheets of notebook paper
6. a pocket dictionary
PLEASE HAVE THESE ITEMS WITH YOU WHEN YOU COME TO CLASS.
TO PARENTS:
Homework is assigned EVERYDAY for my classes as follows:
1. Students must watch a MAJOR newscast each day (at least the first 25 minutes)
2. Students must review notes and worksheets daily.
The above are daily assignments. In addition to those assignments, students should:
1. Study for upcoming tests (there are no unannounced tests in my classes); students will always know when a test will be given.
2. work on assigned project as assigned.( Students should follow the schedule distributed.)
3.complete assigned worksheets to be submitted the next day.
PARENTS PLEASE ASK YOUR CHILD TO SHOW YOU WHAT HE/SHE HAS DONE FOR HOMEWORK EACH DAY. THANK YOU.
