  • 00:22 Ms. Rathor's Chemistry Penny Experiment

How many water droplets a penny can hold?

Students learned about Surface Tension, a property which makes a liquid to acquire the least surface area possible. Students also learned that the Surface Tension is caused by a strong attraction between the molecules of liquid called cohesion that cause them to link together and remain uniform.

During experiment, we saw that a penny could hold around 50 droplets. Students were surprised to see this number because most of them guessed 3 or 4 droplets.
